The Knights of St John of Jerusalem founded a Commandery here in the early 13th century. These monk-soldiers were also fine connoisseurs of wine; it can be assumed that they chose to grow vines on this spot after first judging the quality of the area.
Nothing remains of the medieval buildings, but the present owner Claude Comin, the latest descendant in a long line of winegrowers going back to 1884, has done a fine job of restoring the 18th century residence. He has also doubled the surface area of the estate since 1968 and created an ultramodern winery.
This estate has won many awards over the last few years. Claude Comin and his wife are representatives of two centuries of the same family, who have passed the estate down from generation to generation.
Château La Commanderie De Queyret is set in the heart of the Entre Deux Mers region, renowned for its production of dry white wines. Simone and Claude Comin run their estate in the villages of Saint-Antoine-Du-Queyret, Soussac and Mauriac, between the Dordogne and Garonne rivers.
Claude Comin deals with both vine-growing and the wine-making process itself. Although he adheres to the traditions passed down from his descendants,
He realized the importance of modern techniques - provided they are kept under control. With her innate feel for human relationships, Simone Comin has developed the sales network considerably.
They have also been able to transmit this passion to their daughter Sylvie, who joined them on the estate after completing her law studies. With the same desire for quality and skill on every level, they have taken on a young cellar-master, Alain Bessette, as well as Marie-Lise Debregeas who carries out the technical part of the bottling operation. They can all be proud of the work they have achieved. Château La Commanderie de Queyret has acquired much-deserved international renown, as proven by the many awards it has won in competitions in Paris and Bordeaux.
